- Belle Vernon High School Class of 1955
College
- Graduated from West Virginia University in 1960
- Earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education
- Minored in Mathematics
- Earned a Master’s in Mathematics in 1970
Community Involvement
- Mr. Ruby was a Borough Councilman of Red Hill from 1966 to 1972
- Member of the Planning Commission in Red Hill
- He was instrumental in establishing a Public Library in the Montgomery County area asking for donations from various businesses.
- On the committee which started a Recycling Division in 1967-68 in Red Hill and East Greenville for a collection area for cans, newspapers, etc.
Activities worthy of mention
- During his coaching years at Upper Perk, Mr. Ruby established basketball camps for school age children as well as programs to give children opportunities to learn and play basketball.
- But Steve is a class guy, a warmly honest young man without an ounce of artifice in his lanky body. He is practical, with a maturity far beyond his years.

- Retired High School Math Teacher from Upper Perkiomen HS from 1963-1973 and Phoenixville Area High School from 1973-1997.
- A retired Professor of Math from Delaware Tech in Georgetown, Delaware 1997-2011.
- An educator for a combined 50 years.
Professional Organizations and Positions Held
- While at Phoenixville Area HS, Mr. Ruby was the Chairman of Mathematics from 1991 to 1997.
- While at Delaware Tech, Mr. Ruby was the Chairperson for the Academic Challenge Program from 1999 to 2011.
Civic Organizations and Positions Held
- From 1966-1972, Mr. Ruby was a Borough Councilman for Red Hill.
Coaching
- Former head coach of the UPHS basketball team
- He is the only basketball coach to capture a Bux-Mont Championship in the history of Upper Perkiomen High School.
- February 19, 1965, the Upper Perkiomen High School basketball team defeated Souderton High to clinch the first and only Bux-mont League basketball championship the school has won.
- Everyone familiar with Bux-Mont basketball admires what he has done in just two seasons
- He accepted the position of head basketball coach with the idea of getting the job done
- When he started with the Indians, Upper Perkiomen was in basketball bankruptcy. His 1963 – 64 team lost its first eight league games, to the astonishment of practically nobody. Then, suddenly, the Indians won eight of their last 10 games to finish in the first division.
- He did indeed attend West Virginia, and he did play some basketball there.
- His rating as a player when he was in college isn’t important. What is important is his stature as a coach.
- He teaches basketball meticulously and painstakingly, and he expects his players to carry out their assignments accordingly.
