1959 Barry Reeder


Barry Reeder — Class of 1959

Barry Reeder graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1959 where he participated in football, basketball and baseball, earning 8 varsity letters throughout his high school. Barry served as a Captain for all three programs. Barry received All Bux-Mont honors in football during his junior and senior years and All-Bux-Mont honors in baseball during his sophomore, junior and senior years. As a sophomore baseball player, Reeder led the Bux-Mont league in hitting with a .411 average. Barry was voted “Most Athletic” of the 1959 senior class and was featured in the Pottstown Mercury “Schoolboy Stars” in 1958. Barry received offers to play minor league baseball from the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates during his senior year.

Barry continued his education and athletic career at East Stroudsburg University where he focused on playing football for the Warriors for three years. Barry became a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity in 1962. Barry graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies and Safety Education.

After graduation, Barry secured a teaching position in the Souderton School District where he remained for twenty-five years. During his tenure he was in charge of the School Safety Patrol at Salford Hills Elementary School. His program won “Outstanding Safety Patrol” for Montgomery County for 9 years. Throughout his teaching career, Barry served in various positions, including: negotiating team for Teacher’s Union and president and treasurer of the Home & School Association for Salford Hills Elementary School.

Barry served his community as a little league baseball coach in the Harleysville Youth Baseball program and became a member of the Optimist Club in the early 1970's.
