1976 William Mullen
William Mullen – Class of 1976
Bill graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1976 where he participated in football (tailback), winter track, and spring track. Bill earned All Bux-Mont honors in football during his junior and senior years. He was on the state qualifying 880-yard relay team junior year. During Bill’s senior year of football, he earned the Golden Rams West Chester University offensive MVP for the Bux-Mont league, Bulletin All Scholastic Team honorable mention, Football MVP Blue and Gold Banquet, Honorable mention all-state. Bill participated in the Montgomery County All Star football game in 1976. Bill held football records for his senior year including – rushing yardage season and career, longest TD catch and run, points per season, TDs per season and yards per carry (6.4).
Bill continued his education and football career at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA. While at Delaware Valley College, Bill lettered in football for three years and received the outstanding offensive back award for 1977, 1978, and 1979. Bill’s senior year he received the James Work Award (team MVP), Philadelphia Maxwell Club player of the week, and All Middle Atlantic Conference first team. During his senior year Bill set school records for most TDs and points in a season while playing tailback.
Upon graduation from Delaware Valley College Bill was invited to try out for the Philadelphia Stars of the new United States Football League (USFL).
Professionally, Bill worked his way up to Plant Manager for J&J Snack Foods Corporation. Bill managed one of the fifteen plants owned by J&J Snack Foods, whose main brands are Super Pretzel and ICEE.
Bill was an assistant football coach for two years at Upper Perkiomen Middle School.
