2001 Rachael Hilgar

Rachael Hilgar - Class of 2001

Rachael graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 2001. She lettered three years in both field hockey and lacrosse, two years in basketball and one year in softball. Rachael’s Field Hockey awards are numerous earning 1st Team All-State honors in 2000, 2nd Team All State honors in 1999, Pottstown Mercury Field Hockey Player of the Year in 2000 as well as Upper Perkiomen’s Most Valuable Player her senior year. She received All PAC-10 1st Team honors during the 1999 and 2000 seasons, Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area 2nd Team in 2000, National Futures Tournament selection in 2000 and 2001, National Field Hockey Festival participant from 1998 to 2001, PAC-10 Conference All-Star game participant in 2000. In addition to the many honors during her senior year, Rachael led the PAC-10 in scoring during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Rachel finished her high school career with 41 goals and 20assists. In 1999 Rachael helped guide the National Field Hockey festival team to a Gold Medal. Rachael was also a member of the United States Futures Field Hockey Association program from 1996 to 2001. At the 2001 Blue and Gold Banquet, she was voted the UPHS Female Most Outstanding Athlete.
In high school, she also participated in A-Choir and Uptones, National Honor Society, Student Council and Stand Tall Drug Mentoring Program while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. Rachael was voted to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad in 2000 and to the PAC-10 All-Academic Team in 1999 and 2000. She was recruited and received a scholarship to the University of Maine.
Rachael was a four-year varsity letter winner and three-year starter for the Maine Black Bears. She scored 30 goals and had 14 assists for a career total of 74 points. She led her team in scoring in both 2003 and 2004 and was second in scoring in 2002. Rachael led,her team to three American East Conference Championship games during her career at the University of Maine. In 2004, Rachael earned selection to the America East All-Conference 1st Team, American East‘ All Tournament and All-North East Region 2nd Team.
Rachael continued her academic achievements in college. She graduated Magna Laude with an overall GPA of 3.65 and was awarded the Most Outstanding Student Award in International Business for having the highest GPA in her Major for her graduating class. Rachael also received numerous academic honors for being an outstanding student-athlete. In 2005, she received the University of Maine Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award and was the Maine Scholar Athlete Gold Medal winner. She was part of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad for the years 2002 through 2004 and was named to the America East Conference Honor Roll from 2001 through 2004.
