1988 Dr. Gregory M. Reihman

Gregory Reihman - Class of 1988

Dr. Gregory Reihman graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1988 where he had a stellar career both academically and athletically. Athletically, he was one of the most prolific swimmers to ever participate on the school’s boy’s swim and water polo teams. Academically, he demonstrated the true meaning of scholar-athlete by being recognized as his class’s Valedictorian. In a addition, he was a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Scholar Honorable Mention, served as Student Council President and named a NISCA National Academic All-American.
Greg's athletic accomplishments in the pool are equally as impressive. Swimming all four years in high school, he amassed the following record:
1984-85: Bux Mont Champion in the 500 Freestyle; District I Qualifier in the 200 and 500 Freestyle and was the first Upper Perkiomen High School freshman to qualify for the District I Championships.
1985-86: PIAA State Swimming Championship in the 500 Freestyle finishing in 8th place; All-State Honorable Mention; Captain of the Boy’s Water Polo and Swim Teams; MVP for Boy's Water Polo and Boy’s Swimming.
1986-87: District I Champion in the 200 Freestyle finishing in 1st place; District I Champion in the 500 Freestyle finishing in 1st place; PIAA State Swimming Championship in the 200 Freestyle finishing in 3rd place and named All-State; PIAA State Swimming Championship in the 500 Freestyle finishing in 2nd place and named All State; School record holder in the 200 and 500 Freestyle; Named Captain of the Boy’s Water Polo and Swim Teams; Named MVP in Boy’s Water Polo and Boy’s Swimming.
1987-88: District I Champion in the 200 Freestyle finishing in 1st place; District I Champion in the 500 Freestyle finishing in 1st place; District I Swimmer-of-the-Meet; PIAA State Swimming Championship finishing 15th place in the 200 Freestyle and named All-State; PIAA State Swimming Championship finishing 1st place in the 500 Freestyle and named All-State; named All-American and ranked 28th in the U.S. in the 200 Freestyle; named All-American Honorable Mention and ranked 40th in the U.S.in the 500 Freestyle; named NISCA Academic All-American; holds the UPHS records in: 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle; named Captain of the Boy’s Water Polo and Swim Teams; named MVP of the Boy’s Water Polo and Swim Teams; name UPHS Scholar-Athlete.

After high school, Greg continued his stellar career in academics and athletics at Yale University. As a member of the Men’s Water Polo and Swim Teams, Greg amassed many accomplishments including; 2nd Team All-New England Honorable Mention and Eastern Interscholastic Swimming League (EISL) Qualifier in the 200 and 500 Freestyle and 800 Free Relay his freshman year in water polo and swimming. He continued his success his sophomore and junior years by being named Team MVP, 1st Team All-New England and EISL Qualifier in the 200, 500 and 1650 Freestyle and the 800 Free Relay.
In his senior year, Greg went on to be an EISL Qualifier and Championship Finalist in the 200, 500 and 100 Freestyle and the 400 and 800 Free Relay. Additionally, he was a EISL League Champion in the 400 Free Relay and helped set an EISL League and Team Record in the 400 and 800 Free Relay. Capping off his swim career at Yale, Greg was named team captain and, as one of three men in program history to serve as a team captain for two years Greg was awarded to William Leeming Jellife Award for Team Leadership

Greg graduated from Yale University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, with distinction in the major. After teaching English in China from 1993-94, he earned a Master’s Degree (1995) and then his Doctorate (2001) in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. From 1998 to 2004, Greg worked at Stanford University, teaching in and helping to administer the Introduction to the Humanities Program. Now at Lehigh University, Dr. Reihman is the University’s Associate Vice Provost, Director of the Center for Innovation in Teach and Learning and Adjunct Professor of Philosophy.
Greg is marred to his wife Kristin, a family physician who works in the Department of Family Medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital and in private practice. Greg and Kristin are the proud parents of four wonderful children, Mahlon, Baxter, Tula and Xavier..
