1976 Alan Treffinger
Alan Treffinger- 1976
Alan graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1976 where he participated in cross country, winter track, and spring track. His junior year he was the Bux-Mont champion in the 2 mile run and the PIAA District One champion in the mile run. His senior year he was the Bux-Mont and the PIAA District One champion in cross country and finished 5th in the PIAA State Championship race. In spring track he was Bux-Mont champion in the 2 mile run and set the Bux-Mont record. He also won the District One PIAA mile run and 2 mile runs. Alan finished 4th in the mile run at the PIAA State Championship finals.
Alan continued his education and distance running career at Millersville State College and competed in cross country, winter track, and spring track all 4 years. His best mile time was 4:10 which he ran at Rutgers University. He was the Pennsylvania State Champion in Cross Country and 5000 meter run his senior year
In 1980 Alan received the Elwood J. Finly Award for the most outstanding athlete at Millersville State College
While at Millersville State College, Alan majored in Industrial Arts Education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education Cum Laude in 1980 and his Masters of Education in 1983.
Alan returned to the Upper Perkiomen School District in the fall of 1980 and started teaching Industrial Arts at Upper Perkiomen High School.
Athletically - He continued his running career competing in road racing and running marathons, while also coaching cross country and track at Upper Perkiomen High School and Ursinus College. Alan set his personal best time of 1:04:33 at the Philadelphia half marathon. His best marathon time of 2:17:30 was run at the Boston marathon. He also qualified and competed in the USA olympic trials in the marathon in 1983.
The Upper Perkiomen High School Walum Olum Yearbook was dedicated to Alan by the Class of 1996 and Class of 2008.
Alan was inducted into the UPHS Athletic Wall of Fame in 1996.
In 2014 Alan retired from the Upper Perkiomen School District after 34 years of teaching. In 2019 he received the Distinguished/Service Award from the Upper Perkiomen School Board.
After retiring from Upper Perkiomen School District, Alan and his wife Lisa pursued their passion for the outdoors and became Pennsylvania campground owners of Pleasant Hills Campground in Central Pennsylvania which they owned and managed for 7 camping seasons.
Former community involvement included leadership roles in Boy Scouts of America East Greenville Troop #108, treasurer of Lehigh Valley Canoe Club, treasurer of Lenape Bulldog Club of Pennsylvania, and is currently a volunteer with Canine Partners for Life, a full service dog organization.
